Create a Private Theme

This article explains how to create and deliver private themes on Zid, focusing on development, testing, and direct merchant upload.

Updated today

Private themes on Zid are designed specifically for individual merchants and are not publicly listed on the Zid Theme Market. Unlike public themes, private themes do not require submission or management via the Partner Dashboard.

Private Themes Flow

As a private theme developer, follow these steps to create and deliver a private theme:

1. Develop Your Theme

  • Utilize the comprehensive Zid theme documentation to build your theme.

  • Ensure your theme meets the functional and design requirements of the target merchant.

2. Test Your Theme

  • Test your theme similarly to public themes.

  • The main difference is that testing happens within an actual merchant store environment instead of a development store.

3. Deliver Theme to Merchant

  • Once development and initial testing are complete, coordinate with the merchant to upload the theme.

  • The merchant should:

    • Log in to their own store dashboard.

    • Navigate to the Theme Market.

    • Use the Upload Theme option to upload the private theme package.

4. Merchant Preview and Testing

  • The merchant can now preview, activate, and test the theme directly in their store.

  • This allows for real-time validation of theme functionality and appearance.

Note: The private theme testing process mirrors the public theme testing cycle, but it is conducted directly inside the merchant’s live store rather than a development environment.
